...and this lamp

When I was on my honeymoon, we always did a check to make sure we had everything when we left the hotel and my husband would always say "and this lamp" after we listed everything we were bringing! Apparently its from some movie, it even got a laugh out of one of our tour guides on the manta ray night time snorkel (totes worth it!). Anyway, it made me laugh every time and that's most likely why he kept saying it.
Today, I am going to tell you about a DIY project I did to upgrade an old ugly lamp to an awesome lamp! About 8 years ago, I moved into my own apartment and did the living room in a peacock motif. While I still have many of those decor items, my style has changed a lot and my blue, purple, green, brown(really?brown?),white lamp needed to be discarded....or so I thought!

Here is a photo of the original lamp
...basically. I didn't have a before photo, so this is the best I can do. The colors of the shades aren't the same, but you get it. It was COOL at the time and cheap - which also makes me wonder...why don't I just fucking through it away and BUY a new one? Maybe it's nostalgia, it was my first lamp and it went so well with my peacock decor and brown couch. Maybe I just want to get crafty.

I wanted something that looked vintage and clean.

First, I took off all of the shades and removed the lightbulbs.
Then, I sanded the entire thing. No, I don't know what type of sandpaper, it was literally sitting on a shelf in view so I just grabbed that one. If it wasn't there, I probably wouldn't have sanded at all.
I put down some newspaper and went for it! I bought some matte black spray paint on Amazon. linked here!
I sprayed the shit out of the lamp, from the base to the top. I actually took about 2 weeks doing this because I would spray a coat and "let it dry" but really just get distracted and never get back to it. I did 3 coats total, and you could probably let it dry for 2 hour between coats if you wanted to complete it in less than 2 weeks lol.  Make sure you don't lay it on too think or else there will be drips like mine did because I did decide to do one coat while I had been day drinking and that ended up ruining one whole "arm" with drippies all down it.
I also bought some Edison bulbs which if you don't know what those are they are basically bulbs that you can see the inside wires of and tend to be more of an amber or yellow color rather than bright white. They are pretty popular in hipster breweries right now. Apparently, they resemble the ones Edison made 100 years ago! They generally have an elongated shape, but I bought round ones to be different! Actually, the elongated ones would have looked stupid. The round ones are about twice the size of a regular sized lightbulb. Here is a link!

The end result....
The lights are a bit brighter than I had hoped, but I absolutely love it and will actually keep it around now! It cost me a total of $30 and I have an extra light bulb just in case:)

TaTa for now!

Chronicling the following: Unicorn Space, 75 Holistic, and being a new mom to two

I feel like it's easy to create goals, but a lot harder to stick to them! You get caught up in the daily grind or something *happens* and you never get back into it (whatever IT may be).  I had a baby almost 3 months ago and I also have a 3 year old, so life is a little hectic and crazy. I also lost my dad about a year and a half ago and that was a huge mental load in many ways. Even though my baby is still young, I want to really start reaching the goals that I set for myself in order to 1. set a good example for my family, 2. be the best mama I can be (and I can only do that if I am participating in some self-care and making time for myself) and 3. well I mean who doesn't like accomplishing things? 4. be set up for success once life gets "easier"  To start, I am going to add journaling to my unicorn space goals. I want to do more than that, but I think it's a good way to get my creative juice flowing and I can figure out what I would like to do next. Ideas incl...

I think I might blog about it

I am feeling bloggy today! I'm about ready to fire up the instagram (and dare I say start up my tiktok?) again and in about a month I'll be making the switch to my fall/winter capsule wardrobe. But here's the thing...I'm having SO much fun in my current spring/summer one! I'm pretty sure I am going to combine them for a somewhat larger than average, but longer lasting, capsule. A lot of people switch theirs every season. I tend to switch it up every 6 months. Now it may be more of a "this is my wardrobe forever and everytime I buy something new I get rid of something with holes or stains" wardrobe.  Anyway- My incredibly loose formula for building a capsule is as follows:  Figure out my color scheme! I did a brown base for my last fall/winter and navy base for my spring/summer. I think that this time around I will do a navy base for my fall/winter, but keep in some of the brown as a secondary color. I also always have a cool off-white as my second base col...

Britton Bigfoot Basecamp

FUN NEWS!  We bought a pop up camper!  And we named her the Britton Bigfoot Basecamp. Eliza is currently obsessed with Bigfoot so it felt right. We did ask ChatGPT for some name suggestions, but Alex and I came up with this on our own! I told ChatGPT that we are a family of 4 with two young girls looking for a name for our new pop up camper. We love music and the outdoors, and our 3 year old loves Bigfoot! Some of my fave Chat suggestions were Pop goes the Brittons, Popped and Rocked, In Tune and In Tents, Off Key and Off Road, but Alex wasn't thrilled with them. Luckily, some of the Chat's suggestions inspired us to where we ended up!  We are going to chronicle our renovation of the pop up, which is luckily in amazing condition. We also want to try not to spend an exorbitant amount of money, so I think I'll also share what we are spending along the way.  First up is cleaning! I have spent about $40 on a cleaner that gets rid of mildew, a mop for cleaning the c...
