Going with a looser and less formal version of the capsule this time around. By that, I mean that I am not going to be using an algorithm of how many pieces to use and feel like I am leaving a piece out that would totally work, ya feel? Basically, I am just picking a color scheme- and anything that FITS and MATCHES stays! Everything else is either donated or stored away until my Fall/Winter capsule begins- probably September or Octoberish. I went this way for my Fall/Winter capsule and it really worked for me this time around- so I decided to blog about it for the Spring and Summer one!
First, I decided on my color scheme. Neutral colors are: Black, White, Denim, and Blush. Accent colors/patterns are: Mustard/Turmeric/Camel, Lilac, Baby blue, Leopard, and Stripes. Hoping all the pastel colors will go together- we shall see. Here is my mood board.
Then, I went through my stored clothes and grabbed anything that felt like it went with the color scheme. I kept a lot of the same clothes from the winter wardrobe and am just trading out the accent pieces.
Base/Neutral pieces I kept from previous capsule aka year round pieces:
Long sleeve thin striped tee
White v neck tee
Short sleeve thick striped tee
Black skull graphic tee
Light blue crew neck tee
Light pink Reduce Reuse Recycle graphic tee
Chambray long sleeve button up
Black and white buffalo plaid flannel
Straight leg jeans
Black leggings
Black tights- solid and lace
Jean overalls
Light blue "leather" jacket
Jean jacket
Gray collared duster cardigan
Checkered van slip ons
Glitter rain booties
White tennis shoes
Black heeled booties (might take these out)
Pieces I'm adding:
Light pink tee shirt
Mustard peplum top with floral pattern
Turmeric sweater with white spots
Lilac v neck shirt
Cream lace dress
Mustard floral dress (I have a long and a short one)
Blue and lilac floral dress
Leopard print skirt
Flared jeans (we'll see how this goes)
Mustard straight leg ripped jeans
Black shorts (bought to wear in Hawaii- will see if I use in capsule or not, it's a toss up)
Black flowy jumpsuit/overall thingy (lol)
Light pink chunky sweater cardigan
Blush trench coat
Cognac booties
Cognac sandals with gold accents
Camel suede mules
Black sandals
A black belt and a brown belt
....and I think that's it. I really really want the heeled doc martens pictured in mood board, but I just don't know if I'll ever wear them. I needed to cater my wardrobe to work with 3 days of work at a daycare, but can still be elevated for being social after work. I also am active enough on my days away from the daycare that I like to be in comfortable clothing pretty much 24/7. I also pulled 2 or 3 other dresses out that I know I'll want to wear and they'll go with my jean jacket or any of the shoes in my capsule- but they technically don't match the color scheme.
With the amount of items in my capsule, I have over 3,000 outfit combinations I can make. This is PERFECT for me because I love wearing something different every day, but I also like it to be easy to get dressed in the morning, saving money on shopping, and having layers for the crazy California weather. I probably have a few more shirt and pants options than most people's capsules, but having some extra basics make my wardrobe more interesting for me as well as keeping the laundry and washing my clothes down to a minimum. I would like to start air drying my clothes to get more life out of them.
I shopped my own storage closet for my Spring/Summer capsule, but I purchased a few things.
Turmeric sweater with spots from Poshmark (Madewell)
Blush trench coat from Poshmark (H&M)
2 leather belts from Poshmark (Not sure on brand)
Mustard ripped jeans from Poshmark (American Eagle)
Lilac tee shirt from Madewell
Flared Jeans from Poshmark (Boden)
and Black shorts from Shein. This was kind of an embarrassing purchase as I am trying to be as sustainable in my purchases as possible, but it's hard to deny fast and cheap fashion for something I only bought for a week long vacation. I will try and incorporate them into the capsule as well- but if I don't I only spent $10 on them and I can donate them to someone in need after the trip. All of my other purchases were made second hand or from companies that I believe have good to great practices in their materials and production. Now, I won't need to buy clothing until September or October! And as usual, I have SO much more to say- but I think I'll end it right here.
