I think I might blog about it

I am feeling bloggy today! I'm about ready to fire up the instagram (and dare I say start up my tiktok?) again and in about a month I'll be making the switch to my fall/winter capsule wardrobe. But here's the thing...I'm having SO much fun in my current spring/summer one! I'm pretty sure I am going to combine them for a somewhat larger than average, but longer lasting, capsule. A lot of people switch theirs every season. I tend to switch it up every 6 months. Now it may be more of a "this is my wardrobe forever and everytime I buy something new I get rid of something with holes or stains" wardrobe.

Anyway- My incredibly loose formula for building a capsule is as follows:

  • Figure out my color scheme! I did a brown base for my last fall/winter and navy base for my spring/summer. I think that this time around I will do a navy base for my fall/winter, but keep in some of the brown as a secondary color. I also always have a cool off-white as my second base color.
    • I like having 2-4 neutrals and then 3-4 accent colors/patterns as well.
  • Then I choose my tops and bottoms- hopefully I can shop my own closet for this. Sometimes I have to go through my clothes first before I finalize my accent colors and patterns because I'll surprise myself with a well-fitting clothing item that will go really nicely with a base or neutral that I have chosen. I normally have the most tops in my capsule. For the fall I need some long sleeves, tee shirts, at least one flannel, and a couple sweaters. For bottoms, I'll have a few pairs of nice pants, a few leggings, and a few jeans- darker washes for the fall/winter.
  • I like to have around 4 or 5 jackets/outerwear items. Normally I have at least one pullover for cooler days when I am going to workout or be active. I like having a nice jacket such as a peacoat or blazer, then at least one cardigan! My body type like a longer open layer so thats what I like to have for most of my outerwear. Then, OF COURSE, a vest!!! Me loves me a vest! Last fall I had two, my teal one with southwest patterns and my pink puffy vest. This year I got this super cute sherpa plaid one on amazon I am so excited to style!
  • Last is my accessories and shoes! I will probably have my brown beanie in again as I basically LIVED in that last winter. I think I'll add my gray felted brim hat. I'm also thinking of going with my glitter rain boots this time around, as well as 3-4 other pairs of shoes. I don't really switch it up with my bags and jewelry very often, but I want to try and accessorize with dangly earrings more often and may invest in a few pairs to switch back and forth between.
  • I like to organize all of this into a canva design so that I can visually see what I have and make sure that I have enough items that go together and no random pieces that only go with like one other thing. The key to having a capsule is MOST items go with MOST other items! I've also used the app Cladwell and really liked it, just wish it wasn't paid.
Some fun pics of outfit pieces for next season:

Lastly, I would like to challenge myself to find a dress that I find flattering on myself and incorporating that into my winter wardrobe! I LOVE the look of skirts and dresses but have a hard time finding ones that are flattering on my body type AND comfortable enough to wear all day long :)

Chronicling the following: Unicorn Space, 75 Holistic, and being a new mom to two

I feel like it's easy to create goals, but a lot harder to stick to them! You get caught up in the daily grind or something *happens* and you never get back into it (whatever IT may be).  I had a baby almost 3 months ago and I also have a 3 year old, so life is a little hectic and crazy. I also lost my dad about a year and a half ago and that was a huge mental load in many ways. Even though my baby is still young, I want to really start reaching the goals that I set for myself in order to 1. set a good example for my family, 2. be the best mama I can be (and I can only do that if I am participating in some self-care and making time for myself) and 3. well I mean who doesn't like accomplishing things? 4. be set up for success once life gets "easier"  To start, I am going to add journaling to my unicorn space goals. I want to do more than that, but I think it's a good way to get my creative juice flowing and I can figure out what I would like to do next. Ideas incl...

Britton Bigfoot Basecamp

FUN NEWS!  We bought a pop up camper!  And we named her the Britton Bigfoot Basecamp. Eliza is currently obsessed with Bigfoot so it felt right. We did ask ChatGPT for some name suggestions, but Alex and I came up with this on our own! I told ChatGPT that we are a family of 4 with two young girls looking for a name for our new pop up camper. We love music and the outdoors, and our 3 year old loves Bigfoot! Some of my fave Chat suggestions were Pop goes the Brittons, Popped and Rocked, In Tune and In Tents, Off Key and Off Road, but Alex wasn't thrilled with them. Luckily, some of the Chat's suggestions inspired us to where we ended up!  We are going to chronicle our renovation of the pop up, which is luckily in amazing condition. We also want to try not to spend an exorbitant amount of money, so I think I'll also share what we are spending along the way.  First up is cleaning! I have spent about $40 on a cleaner that gets rid of mildew, a mop for cleaning the c...
